A couple of Saturdays spent on their hands and knees cleaning up the mess would be sufficient enough. If only things were that easy. The sad part is, the parents will probably be the ones paying. Is Lebanon's track one of those high dollar tracks made from recycled tires? If so, that stuff's very expensive. Not that asphalt's cheap.
From what I can hear and read the damage was into the thousands. Does that not constitute a felony? A slap on the wrist does not send much of a message.
Does this mean they will not play in the playoffs?
I don't think any charges are going to be pressed, but I haven't heard anything new on that yet.
Everyone makes mistakes. What they did was stupid yes, but everyone does something they will later regret while they are young. The damage that was done was in the thousands of dollars, but I would think as long as they pay for the damages, no charges will be filed. The administrations at Honaker and Lebanon just want to end this as quickly and painlessly as possible, I don't think the Russell County school board will want to file criminal charges against a bunch of kids for a simple case of petty vandalism, it would tear the community of Russell County apart. The punishments have been carried out, and the damages will be paid, and it should just be left at that.
That would be following in the footsteps of some major universities.

So you are saying they should not be allowed back in school at all? I thought the punishment was kind of light because the Russell County hand book states that destruction of county property carries a penalty of 5 days suspension. But why should they have gotten kicked out of school completely?
Here's my 2 cents. I think sending flowers, hanging PAPER signs up and stuff like that is OKAY. However, painting property or whatever is not okay. It's against the law. I think they should be suspended from school for a week or maybe 2 weeks, football playing privleges taken away, and a good deal of community service.
I heard a couple of the players that are 18 might be gettin into some trouble. But how much, I don't know.
Ya'll being a bit harsh don't you think? Paint can be painted back over but a football game out of a players senior year can never be made up. I say a fine and a game off is punishment enough
I agree, petty vandalism is nothing that should be taken to court unless the guilty parties aren't willing to pay for the damages, which they did. Least the whole thing is over now.
